As we approach our next holiday, please remember our fallen soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for us. Take a moment and thank a Vet.
Memorial Day begun as a ritual of remembrance and reconciliation after the Civil War. By the early 20th century, Memorial Day was an occasion for more general expressions of memory, as ordinary people visited the graves of their deceased relatives, whether they had served in the military or not. It also became a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family get-togethers, fireworks, trips to the beach, and national media events such as the Indianapolis 500.
Remember, if you know of a Vet who needs help with activities of daily living, the government has set aside money to assist our aging vets in their time of need. They may be eligible for the veteran’s aid and attendance, this monthly check is tax free approximately $1632 for the veteran, $1055 for a surviving spouse and a couple is eligible for up to $1949 per month.
According to Senior Care Associates, to receive these benefits veterans must have served 90 days active duty with one day during a period of war.
